Larvicidalactivity,inhibitioneffectondevelopment,histopathologicalalterationandmorphologicalaberrationinducedbyseaweedextractsinAedesaegypti(Diptera:Culicidae)
摘要: Objective:Toinvestigatethelarvicidalactivity,inhibitioneffectondevelopment,histopathologicalalterationandmorphologicalaberrationinducedbytheextractsderivedfromseaweedsBryopsispennuta(B.pennata),Sargassumbinderi(S.binderi)andPadinaaustralisinAedesaegypti(Ae.aegypti)larvaeandtocharacterizethephytochetnicalcomponentsofthethreeseaweeds.Methods:LarvicidalactivityoftheseaweedstowardsthelarvaeofAe.aegyptiwasdeterminedaccordingtoWHO.Theinhibitioneffectofseaweedswasassessedbydeterminingthemortality,adultemergencerate,larvalandpupadurationofthetreatedlarvae.Histopathologicaleffectonmidgutepitheliumoflarvaeandmorphologicalaberrationinducedbythemethanolextractswereexamined.Phytochemicalanalysiswasdonetodeterminethepresenceofalkaloids,saponins,steroidsandterpenoidsintheseaweeds.Results:ChloroformpartitionofB.pennataextractexhibitedthestrongestlarvicidalactivity(LC_(50)=82.55μg/mL).followedbymethanolextractofB.pennata(LC_(50)=160.07μg/mL)andchloroformpartitionofS.binderiextract(LC_(50)=192.43μg/mL).ThemethanolextractofS.bituleriexhibitedthestrongesteffectonprolongationoflarvalperiod(1.5-foldlongerascomparedtocontrol)andresultedinstrongestinhibitioneffectinadultemergence(98.67%).Thehistopathologicalstudyshowedthatlarvaetreatedwithseaweedextractshadcytopathologicalalterationofthemidgutepithelium.Themorphologicalobservationrevealedthattheanalpapillaeandterminalspiraclesoflarvaewerethecommonsitesofaberrations.Conclusions:ThestudyprovidedinformationonvariouseffectsofseaweedextractsonAe.aegypti.Furtherinvestigationonidentifyingtheactivecompoundsandtheirmechanismsofactionisrecommended. ...
