AcceptabilityofPhysicalExaminationbyMaleDoctorsinMedicalCare:TakingBreastPalpationasanExample

摘要： Inthisstudy,weconductedaninvestigationamongmedicalworkers,patientsandcollegestudentsconcerningtheiracceptabilityofbreastpalpationperformedbymaledoctors(hereinafterreferredtoasacceptability,ortheexamination,respectively,ifnototherwiseindicated),togettheinformationabouttheiracceptabilityandreasonsforacceptingordecliningtheexaminationamongthethreepopulation.Aquestionnaireinvestigationwasconductedin500patientswithbreastdiseases,700studentsofmedicalcolleges,and280medicalworkersworkinginhospitals.Thesubjectswereaskedtochoosebetweentwooptions:acceptordonotaccept(theexamination).Thesubjectswereaskedtofilloutthequestionnaireformsonfreeandanonymousbasisandthequestionnaireformswerecollectedonspot,immediatelyaftercompletion.Thequestionnairescollectedwerecoded,sortedoutandchecked.DataoftheeligiblequestionnaireswereinputintoEpidatasoftwareandanalyzedbySPSS.Upontheestablishmentofthedatabase,theintra-groupdataweretestedbyutilizingχ2test.Among1480questionnaires,1293(90.41%)questionnaireswereretrieved.Ourresultsshowedthat56.78%ofpatientsreportedthattheycouldacceptbreastpalpationbymaledoctors.About59.66%ofmedicalstaffexpressedtheiracceptanceoftheexamination,butonly35.03%ofstudentssaidtheexamination.Onthebasisofthisstudy,wewereledtoconcludethattheexaminationisnotwellacceptedbydifferentpopulations,andtherefore,(1)medicalprofessionalsandadministratorsshouldpayattentiontothegender-relatedethicsintheirpracticeandthefeelingofpatientsshouldberespectedwhenmedicalexaminationsinvolveprivateorsensitivebodyparts;(2)tothisend,relateddepartmentsshouldbeproperlystaffedwithdoctorsofbothsexes,andthisisespeciallytrueofthedepartmentsinvolvingtheexaminationortreatmentofprivateorsensitivebodyparts;(3)healtheducationshould,amongotherthings,includehelpingfemalepatientstoovercomethefearandanxietyinsuchexaminations.Thisisofgreatimportancesincesomewomenmaymisstheopportunitytogettimelydiagnosis. ... （共4頁(yè)）
